The last book of the Renegades series finishes off the trilogy with a final battle between the Renegades and the Anarchists. With Ace Anarchy captured by the Renegades and the use of Agent N to take away super powers, time is of the essence for Nova and her friends to figure out how to help her uncle before his power is taken away from him. Nova has become close friends with Ruby, Oscar, and especially Adrian but must turn against them to make her family happy. Max, Captain Chromium’s adopted son and Adrian’s brother, also poses danger to Ace’s mission as he can absorb anyone’s power which he once did during the original battle that started it all. Nova’s decisions start adding up and causing her to have second thoughts about helping her uncle, but waits until the last minute to change her mind about what she thinks is truly the best decision for the greater good, rather than what the Renegades or Anarchists believe is best. The ending to Supernova closes out the story of Nova’s and Adrian’s life perfectly, and has many unexpected plot twists leading up to it.
The last book had me on the edge of my seat because it was not the typical ending to a hero story, where the villains are defeated and the heroes win. It truly shows that every story has two sides and that neither side is going to be right 100% of the time. I liked that the story gives closure to most of the character’s lives and what happens to them, and even introduces a potential opportunity for a prequel or side story of some sort. The combination of drama, action, and even a slight bit of romance was balanced well throughout the book, and although there are some cheesy spots, I still think that the idea behind the book makes it worth a read. Often, I find that some books are not very good towards the end of a series, but I was surprisingly pleased with this one, so I give it 5 stars.
