The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a mystery book filled with twists and suspense. Cassie just knows people. Ever since she was young, she could make scarily accurate assumptions about people. One day while she was working, a young man walked in and she couldn’t figure him out no matter how long she stared. When he left, he left a business card from the FBI. She didn’t know it at the time, but that one call would throw her whole life upside down.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson is a realistic fiction book about Pippa Fitz-Amobi, a young girl writing her senior project. She decides to write her project about a local murder that took place 5 years ago, using her senior project as an excuse to do her own investigation. Her goal is to prove the innocence of Sal, the alleged killer who was also found dead, and find out who really killed Andie, Sal’s girlfriend.

Set in the 1950’s, Josie lives in New Orleans above a bookshop. What sets her apart from regular girls is that her mother works as a prostitute, and Josie cleans the house her mother works from. However, this is not the life that Josie wants for herself. She wishes to go to college and have a happier future than she would if she stayed in New Orleans. Unfortunately, this all changes when a wealthy man is murdered and Josie’s mother is involved with the case.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson is an incredible young adult mystery novel. The story follows Pippa Fitz-Amobi through her senior capstone project and her eventful uncovering of the so-called ‘solved disappearance’ of Andie Bell, a 17-year old girl, who was only one year younger than Pip herself. After a while of searching Pip reveals some secrets and winds up leading her own investigation, but her actions come with consequences.
