In this prequel to the popular series The Land of Stories, we take the view of Brystal Evergreen, a girl in an oppressive society where all magic is considered witchcraft and forbidden. When Brystal finds out she might be a fairy and is caught, things take a turn for the worse. She’s taken to a correctional facility to get ‘fixed’, but she is taken apprentice by a magical woman to live in a school for magical children. The book takes you on an incredible journey, and is so amazing to read after reading the land of stories. You find out so much about the magical world, and each cliffhanger leaves you wanting to read the next chapter. I honestly loved this book so much, and immediately read the next one in the prequel series. I thought it was a really well thought out book, and it was SO interesting to read! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy, and I give it a solid 5 stars.
