Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell was the first book that captured my fascination with psychological thrillers. I loved how Jewell made the chapters concise because it was able to push the plot along. I also loved the parallels between the two different time periods that the story was taking place in; they made me even more intrigued about what the outcome of the story would be. On top of the layers of suspense, the themes of emotion and grief shined through during certain chapters, as the main character Laurel attempted to move on from the grief presented in her life. In contrast, the book also looked at darker themes, such as impulse and obsession. Overall, I would rate this book a five out of five; it was a thrilling read.
