The Icarus is the largest and most technologically advanced ship in the universe. Traveling across space in hyper-drive, the ship is transporting valuable cargo, Lilac LaRoux, daughter of the richest man in the universe...in fact her father built the ship. Tarver Merendsen is a young war hero, recently elevated to the rank of Major. An unlikely pair, the two are thrown together when the Icarus is violently pulled out of hyper-drive ripping the ship to pieces. The two barely have time to get to an escape pod before the ship is destroyed and Lilac and Tarver, the only survivors, crash land on an abandoned terraformed planet.
Survival dictates that Lilac and Tarver work together to get to the wreckage of the Icarus and send out a distress signal. But the two couldn't be more different, and working together is harder than it seems. But as they cross the foreign landscape, they learn to depend on each other, and trust in each other's strengths. By the time they reach the Icarus and discover they were the only ones to survive the crash, they aren't so sure they want to be rescued and go back to their lives as a wealthy heiress and army major.
The tale is woven with alternating chapters from Lilac and Tarver's perspectives. In between are chapters where Tarver is being interrogated about the crash...hinting at a hidden mystery underneath the tale.
