The Third Twin by Cynthia James Omololu is a mystery thriller about 2 identical twins who have to figure out why their dates keep turning up dead. Ava and Alexa (Lexi) are seniors who are part of a relatively wealthy family in California. When they were younger, the twins made up an imaginary third twin named Alicia who was blamed for their naughty actions. However, when they got older Ava and Lexi decided to date and dump boys with the persona of Alicia. When their former dates start turning up dead and Alicia is the prime suspect, the twins have to figure out who’s really committing the crimes and why it seems like “Alicia” is stalking them. Personally, I would not recommend this book to anyone.
I was not a huge fan of this book because I found the main characters to be shallow and the twists boring and predictable. The mystery itself was fairly compelling but the ending seemed childish and the overall plot was extremely slow. The majority of the book seemed to be Lexi complaining about her life and Ava being insensitive and annoying. There were good points though, such as the heartwarming relationships in the book and the dramatic moments. Overall, I would give this book three out of five stars.
