For centuries, time has been controlled by clock towers, but when a tower is broken, time upsets. When a tower is destroyed, time Stops. Clock mechanics are tasked with fixing broken towers, but Stopped cities are unable to be rescued. In Victorian England, Danny Hart, a 17-year-old prodigy mechanic with a traumatic past, fixes clock towers that are victims of mysterious bombings across England while trying to find a way to save his father from a Stopped town. But in the process, he meets someone that most people believe doesn’t even exist: a clock spirit, whose name is Colton.
There is so much to love about Timekeeper. Danny is a young man lost in the large city of London, and with everything that’s happened to him, it seems like there is no light at the end of his tunnel. His PTSD from the disturbing accident is clearly established, and it is obvious that his relationship with his mother has been strained and distant ever since his father was trapped in time. His relationship with Colton is so authentic and honest as he tries to balance what his heart wants and what he knows he should do. The mystery of the bombings was excellently written too because it remains a mystery until the very end when everything comes together and suddenly the answer makes sense. Be prepared for plot twists and unexpected turns; the mystery and romance of this novel will leave you wanting more!
