Rowan and Neil have always been pitted against each other, locked in a fierce battle for
the ultimate honor: valedictorian. As their high school reaches its culmination and a
long-awaited game of Howl begins, they find themselves in the strange position to overcome
their hate for each other. Newly allies in this traditional seniors-only Seattle-based scavenger
hunt/manhunt, they begin to discover they have more in common than they thought. Though
these overachievers certainly want to win the cash reward, they find themselves simply wanting
to spend time with each other as well.
I really liked this book and finished it quickly. Sometimes it shows the pitfalls of the young
adult genre - awkward dialogue and strange attempts to show relatability or modernity, but
mostly it’s really engaging and fun to read. The relationship between the main characters is
cute, and it’s pretty fun overall to read their escapades throughout one of my favorite cities. I
would give it four out of five stars.
