The Tortured Poets Department is Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album, most songs processing and diving into her most devastating breakup with Joe Alwyn. The album is mostly synth pop, blending other aspects of her discography, such as Midnights and Folklore. The album comprises 16 songs total. Swift has also dropped bonus tracks on The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, which contains 31 songs total. So technically, The Tortured Poets Department was a secret double album!
I really liked this album! The lyricism was relatable, and the beats and pop aspect really added a twist. It gets depressing at times, but overall, it really captures all the feelings. Ranging from love, to heartbreak, this album has it all. No matter what mood you’re in, this album is great. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because it might have been a little bland at times. Some songs just felt last-minute and there for show, such as “Down Bad”. Other songs had great beats, but lyrics were boring and repetitive, such as “Fortnight”, which features Post Malone. But the rest was amazing. Tracks such as “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and “So Long, London” had amazing poetry and lyrics. Others were just bangers in general. My favorite track is probably “Fresh Out the Slammer”, so definitely go check that out!
