Twice as Hard by Jasmine Brown is a nonfiction book detailing the black female physicians of past and present. The book details how female doctors were not allowed to practice medicine until nearly the 1900’s, and black women trying to enter medical school were very uncommon. The book is written by detailing specific women's lives, showing the diversity they faced not only because they were black, but because they were women. She writes about not only physicians, but also other healthcare careers that were inaccessible to black women until just recently. The book demonstrates how even now there is inequality within the healthcare system that prevents people from entering medicine.

I liked this book because of its extremely detailed history and in depth research. Many of the women featured have been covered by history, and the book gives them the credit they deserve. I found it to be very objective, mainly just detailing the lives of these women, not as much discussing the author's own experiences. It was a fantastic nonfiction novel, but was a longer read. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in history and social equality.
