Unbroken, a nonfiction book, written by Lauren Hillenbrand, is an autobiography told through events of World War II. Louis Zamperini was one of the best runners in high school and college and set records. Louis Zamperini just wanted to participate in the Olympics and live out his dreams. However, as he was set to go to the Olympics, WWII started, and he had to join the army. He endures many challenges to try and survive, from surviving sharks and starvation to the horrendous conditions of POW camps. Ultimately, at the end, when he returns from the war, his dreams of the Olympics are over, and he lives out the rest of his life.
This book was really enjoyable for me, and I would also recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction. Unbroken was also really enthralling and kept me interested the entire time through all of the events in Louis Zamperini’s life. This book made me think about all the heroic actions of war veterans and truly allowed myself to gain a further respect for these people.
