Zharie Young, 16, resides in Kansas City with her auntie E and possesses the gift of seeing the
dead. Bo has an unmistakable charisma, is tall, and always has a skateboard in hand. He also
has freckles that look like stars. Since her mother's passing, Zharie has been the only one to
experience zombie sightings. Zharie and Bo travel a perplexing emotional route that
eventually brings them to the solutions they were seeking. She makes friends with Bo and his
buddies and meets new people that are emotionally different from her. She also asks for
assistance from Devin, her sperm donor, and Auntie E. Zharie learns the real reason for her
mother's passing and stops seeing the dead. She also learns that love has the power to
transform a person and reveal their true selves.
The scene where Zharie finally overcomes her fears and gains the guts to approach Bo was one
of my favorites. She was initially apprehensive, but as soon as he began to consider things
from her perspective, she felt more at ease. Zharie was able to see the positive aspects of
Auntie E despite her ignorance and hostility towards her, and they continue to have a
wonderful connection.
It is definitely a page turner; once you get going, you can't help but wonder what will happen
next.
