Verity is a gripping psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who finds herself in a precarious situation when she’s offered the chance to complete a series by her favorite author, Verity Crawford. As Lowen moves into Verity's home to finish the series, she struggles with her own personal demons while becoming entangled in a web of mystery and suspense. Verity, who is paralyzed after a tragic accident, looms large in the background, and Lowen’s growing attraction to Verity's husband, Jeremy, becomes more complex as she stays. The atmosphere in the house is thick with tension, and Lowen starts to suspect that Verity may be faking her condition. As bizarre occurrences escalate, readers are left questioning the nature of reality—are these events Lowen’s imaginations, or is there something else at play?
I read Verity during my sophomore year of high school. This book was the start to my reading journey. This book had me entangled in the suspense just as much as Lowen was. She was a curious person who was trying to find her way out of the mess she was put into, with her mom and everything. From the start to the finish, I remember I couldn’t put the book down. The most insane part of the book was the ending. That letter. It had me pondering for weeks and months wondering what exactly happened and why it happened. Who was at fault? Was it Verity? Or was it just a writing style? I kept thinking. This book will definitely keep you awake at nights and freak you out!
