Set in the same Stormlight world of The Way of Kings, Warbreaker tells the story of two princesses Vivianna and Siri in a time before Kaladin or Shallan (characters from The Way of Kings) even existed. The story follows the conflict between Hallandren and its neighboring country of Idris. The two princesses will have to try and stop the war at all costs to protect both countries.
I really enjoyed this set in Stormlight. You learn about the "Gods" or "The Returned" and about the fascinating concept of color used throughout the book. I loved all of the characters and the twists and turns Sanderson uses in his storytelling. To put it plainly, this book did not disappoint. I couldn’t put this book down and was immersed into this new time period of the Stormlight world. My only big complaint would be about the unfulfilling ending. The story had so much plot and potential and it just seemed to me that the ending was really rushed as I was left wanting so much more.
But, that being said, I still recommend this to anyone who has (or is reading) The Way of Kings and its following books. I also recommend this to anybody who enjoys fantasy at all. You don’t necessarily have to read The Way of Kings before this book, but I highly recommend it as you would be already kind of familiar with the world and would be able to make connections between the two books. Overall, a great read!
