Brandon Sanderson’s book, Way of Kings, is the first book of the Stormlight Archives series. The book follows different characters. One being Kaladin, as he faces an underdog story and attempts to find the meaning in life. He is forced in a bridge crew on the shattered plains where he must find out how to survive and thrive. Shallan is another character who is searching for Jasnah who she believes possesses an item that could get Shallan and her family out of trouble. The story also follows Dalinar as he struggles through trying to find a balance in life while also winning against the Parshendi.
This is a very lengthy book, with a few parts that drag out. The first 300 pages are pretty uneventful, however the second half of the book is the best piece of writing I have read. More specifically the bridge crew scene where Kaladin goes back. It is one of the most well written parts of a book I have read. The characters in the story give it a wide range of perspectives, however some of the Shallan parts are boring. All of that is made up with the Kaladin parts though. The nature of him along with his beliefs are perfect examples of how to live life with honor, and it makes for a very satisfying and interesting read. I would rate this book five stars, although be warned it is a long read and can drag on at times, but if you persevere through the tougher parts it will be very rewarding.
