“And I was so afraid, only I didn’t know what I was afraid of.”

Gemma lives with her mother Virginia in house next to a forest with an enchanted gateway. Despite constant warning from her mother never to go near the fairyland, her curiosity gets the better of her and she wanders into a new world. But not everything is as it seems, and her mother has been hiding the truth from her. Whether it was for her own protection or not, remains to be seen.

We Shall Be Monsters was just simply, okay. Not some great work of literature, but I have no real complaints apart from it being vaguely forgettable. I read it during a train ride, was content for the few hours it held my attention, and when the train arrived, and I had finished the book I mostly completely forgot about the entirety of the plot. Again, not that it was bad, just ok. I think what it does best is more as a ‘popcorn read’ what I call books good for just filling time and not much else. Vaguely forgettable, but a mindless read for a long day. 3 out of 5 stars.
