We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is mystery fiction. Cadence and her family spend every summer
on an island. Her aunts spend their summer reaching for her grandfather’s attention, for the
inheritance, while Cadence and her cousins spend the summer making as much trouble as they
can. Until something terrible happens two summers before and everyone refuses to tell
Cadence-but she's determined to find out no matter what.
This book was good, the mystery was good and there were good plot twists. The beginning was kind of hard to get through but the climax was really good. I absolutely hated the way this was written though. The stanza-like
writing was so confusing to follow and the book tried to be mysterious through syntax but it just
annoyed me. I would give it a 3/5.
