The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson is a gripping and thought-provoking novel that delves into the complex issues of family, race, and identity. The story revolves around two sisters, one light-skinned and one dark-skinned, who confront the legacy of their family's secrets and racial identity in a small Southern town. As they navigate a world filled with prejudice and discrimination, the novel explores the enduring impact of their ancestors' choices  and the weight of blood ties that bind them. This book has rich character development, and exploration of the lasting consequences of historical racism make this book a powerful and haunting exploration of identity and heritage.

The most compelling aspect of The Weight of Blood is its unflinching exploration of the complexities of racial identity and family dynamics. The author crafts a story that dives deep into the experiences of two sisters, one who is light-skinned and another who is dark-skinned, as they grapple with their family's history and the racial prejudices that shape their lives in a small Southern town. The book keeps you engaged with its rich character development and a plot that's both suspenseful and emotionally charged. I didn’t have many disappointments with this book. I do feel like however it may have not been modern enough to represent what would happen right now. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary fiction with a strong focus on social and racial themes, and to those who appreciate books that challenge their perspective and spark important conversations.
