The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga follows the character, Balram Halwai, as he discusses his rise to wealth. Over a seven day period, he writes to a famous Chinese Premier about his success as an entrepreneur, as well as his struggle of fighting the remains of the caste system and the social ladder. He writes about how he started as a driver from a little town in Laxmanghar, and he worked to own a company in Bangalore.
I overall enjoyed reading this novel. It told a powerful story of his life, and it was an accurate representation of the struggle to climb the social ladder in India. Adiga did a great job of using foreshadowing and emotion to clearly convey Balram and how he felt as a servant and a driver. He also did not shy away from showing the realities of how servants are treated. I would recommend this to people who enjoy realistic novels about struggle and success. I give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
