Into the Wild, by Erin Hunter, is about a house cat named Rusty who lives with “Twolegs”, or humans, but longs for something more. One day, Rusty discovers four clans of wild cats, called Thunderclan, Shadowclan, Riverclan, and Windclan. Rusty decides to join them, becoming Firepaw. Along the way, he makes new friends like Greypaw and Spottedleaf. However, when Shadowclan starts to drive Windclan out of their territory, it's up to Firepaw to help Thunderclan stop Brokenstar and his clan, along with finding the traitor in Thunderclan’s midst.
Into the Wild, and the Warriors series as a whole, has a unique concept that leads to a stellar plot. The world and mythology was incredibly deep, and like nothing I had read before. Even the mystery aspects are strong. This book’s weak point is the cliche nature of the characters, and its predictability when it comes to the twists. Despite this, Into the Wild is a thrilling and action-packed middle grade story.
