L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables is a timeless classic that readers have enjoyed for over a century. The story follows the adventures of Anne Shirley, an intelligent and imaginative orphan girl who is mistakenly sent to live with siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert on Prince Edward Island. Anne’s talkativeness and spirit grow on Matthew, who tells Marilla that he wants to keep her. Marilla hesitates at first, but after a trial period, she agrees to let Anne stay. Anne is a talkative and happy girl despite living a poor life as an orphan. Because Anne acts according to her instincts and not according to a code of manners, she unintentionally defies expectations of proper ladylike behavior. Anne's spirited personality, inclination to mishaps, and optimism make her a lovely protagonist. The novel explores themes of belonging, friendship, and personal growth. I enjoyed this book a lot because of Anne’s character development throughout the story, which is both believable and touching. I loved how the book's gentle humor and heartwarming moments balance its more serious tones. Anne of Green Gables is an amazing coming-of-age tale that I would recommend to readers of all ages because it offers a nostalgic glimpse into a simpler time while also talking about universal experiences of youth and self-discovery.
