Of Princes and Promises by Sandhya Menon is a romantic twist on the tale of The Frog Prince. It follows the main character Caterina DeValle who is on top of the social ladder at St. Rosetta’s Academy. However, after an ugly fallout with her boyfriend Alaric, her status is left shaken. Rahul Chopra, the other main character, is a classic nerd — socially awkward and highly intelligent. However, it is very obvious that he has a thing for Caterina and his delusions are fueled by what he thinks was a “moment” he shared with her. However, the plot twists when his delusions become reality and Caterina asks Rahul to be her date for the upcoming gala. However, this is part of a revenge plan by Caterina to get even with Alaric. Using a tub of magic hair gel, she transforms Rahul into an outgoing and funny RC, the completely opposite of Rahul. Obsessed with the attention and his new social standing, the line between Rahul and RC begins to blur and the question of whether he’ll be able to save himself rises.

Although it is book #2 in St. Rosetta’s Academy series, it can be read as a standalone and the plot still makes sense. The only confusing parts would be minor references to their friends’ relationships. As for plot, this was definitely a very engaging story. The characters are very well written because I often got mad at how bratty Caterina was being and upset over how Rahul was changing so much, and not necessarily for the better. This book is also not a very highly romantic book, it's more of a relationship drama style of book so for those looking for a more intense romance, this would not be the best choice. Overall, good book but nothing too extraordinary. 4 out of 5 stars.
