Persepolis is a graphic novel about Marjane Satrapi’s childhood during the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq war. Her home country is anything but peaceful, but Marjane navigates growing up like any other child. Her simple, innocent commentary on the changes taking place in her country serve as a good reminder that power only remains with those to whom we give it. This graphic novel was mesmerizing as it minimalized the turbulence in Iran while maximizing the emotions of a young girl during the time.

Kim Jiyoung is a novella detailing the discrimination South Korean women face at school, the workplace, and in their personal lives. The book is written as if you are Kim Jiyoung’s psychologist, listening to her recount her life after her psychic deterioration. Interspersed with personal stories are statistics detailing how common her experiences are – just like the name Kim Jiyoung was the most common name for Korean baby girls in 1982.

We Dream of Space is an inspiring and relaxing realistic fiction novel by Erin Entrada Kelly. This book is about three siblings, Bird, Fitch, and Cash, and how they change and realize what a family is like. I love the way the author presents the change the characters go through but I thought the plot of this book was weak and needed more help. I recommend this book to people who want a relaxing pass-time book.

Insurgent is an exciting and active action thriller by Veronica Roth. This book is about a sixteen year old girl named Tris, and her boyfriend Tobias, who escape the city and go to Amity lands (one of the factions, they value peace). They then escape those lands and return to the city and take cover in the Merciless Mart (the candor building, they value honesty), they kill their dauntless traitor leader and return to the Dauntless compounds.

Hugo Wilkinson just got dumped right before the trip he was supposed to take with his now ex-girlfriend. He would go alone (in fact, he would prefer to go alone, being a sextuplet has its downfalls, after all) if only his train tickets weren’t in his ex's name. Obviously, the only solution is to find another Margaret Campbell to accompany him across the United States.
