After you’ve swept all the crumbs off the kitchen floor and picked up the toys strewn all over the house for the 10 millionth time, if your toddler is anything like mine, you might get lucky enough that they
will actually sit down for longer than one minute to read a book with you. We all know how important it is to read with our kids, but getting them to stay in one spot can be like fighting against Godzilla. I know I’ve felt trampled more than once when trying to read a fun new board book only to be met with demands to play blocks instead.
My daughter is now almost two, and to her, everything in the world is more exciting than sitting still. For those times that nothing I do will get her to stop moving, I’ll try singing songs to her that I’ve learned at Storytime or from my favorite Storytime blog, Jbrary.
But when she actually is in the mood to sit down to read, we have so much fun with fantastic board books. I’m lucky that I get to work in a library system with an amazing collection of children’s books selected by experts in their fields.
For practicing our 6x6 skill of Having Fun with Books (and being extra silly while you read), we loved Cows Are Pink!
For a book with real kids’ faces: Watch This!
