The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is an amazing book that tackles themes of race, identity, and justice. The main character Starr Carter is a 16 year old African American girl who has two lives:her rich prep school and her poor neighborhood. For most of her life, they stayed separate, but it all changes when Starr’s friend Khalil is wrongfully shot by a police officer who presumed that Khalil pulling out a comb was Khalil pulling out a gun.

My rating for this book is a 5. This is THE best book I've ever read. Every aspect of this book is so well thought out. It is really long compared to other books but it did not fail to keep me focused.

Summary:

This is about a girl named Bree whose mom died in a car accident. She then goes to a college in North Carolina where she discovers a society named the "Legendborn". These are people who use their powers to kill demons. Bree is then suspicious and she thinks that this society might have something to do with the death of her mother.

Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé is SO GOOD. It gives off some Gossip Girl vibes, but itis so much more elevated and extremely intense. I really enjoyed this book because it is dark and mysterious while also being funny and adventurous. It is definitely a unique read and I have never read anything even remotely close to it. It is packed with so many little plots, twists, turns, and epiphanies that I read the whole thing in two days or less. A 100% must-read novel!!

Ashes of Gold by J. Elle is teen fiction but heavily focused on fantasy with ties to our world.  The book is a continuation of Rue’s journey to reclaim Ghizon from the Chancellor and give it back to the Ghizoni people.  Not only does Rue struggle in the fight against the Chancellor, she also struggles to connect with her people and herself. I love the compelling plot and the character growth in this book.
