Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is a New Adult, romantic fantasy novel set in the Basgiath War College in the fictional country of Navarre. It follows Violet Sorrengail, a fragile twenty-year old girl who was trained her entire life to go to Basgiath and train as a scribe. In Basgiath, there are multiple wings and different academies: one for riders of dragons (who function as the airborne protection of Navarre against its neighbors), one for scribes, one for infantry, and one for healers.

This historical fiction novel by Anthony Doerr is a novel set against the backdrop of World War II and primarily follows two main characters, Marie-Laure LeBlanc and Werner Pfennig. Marie-Laure, a blind French girl, flees Paris with her father when the Germans invade. They seek refuge in Saint-Malo, carrying with them a precious jewel from the Museum of Natural History, where her father worked. As they navigate the challenges of the war, Marie-Laure's father constructs a miniature model of the city to help her memorize its layout.

Atonement written by Ian McEwan is a piece of historical fiction that follows the lives of the Tallis family in the early to mid 20th century. The reader follows the sisters Briony and Cecilia Tallis and the groundskeeper's son Robbie Turner on a hot summer’s day in the family’s household as they prepare for the eldest Tallis son to return from college. Briony is an imaginative and naive 13 year old girl trying to convince her visiting cousins to perform her written play.
