This book is definitely in my top 10 books of this year. I loved the portrayal of lgbtq+ themes with fantasy. It also has a mythological aspect to it. It’s honestly refreshing to see a book that has lgbtq+ as a subplot and focuses more on fantasy. Most lgbtq+ book are more slice of life or coming of age, although those are fun to read from time to time. Overall I loved this book.

Madeline Miller’s Circe is a retelling of the ancient Greek myth of a witch with the powers of transformation. Born to Helios, the Titan god of the sun yet evidently without any powers of her own, Circe has a childhood in the shadows, largely unnoticed unless harassed. She discovers her magical abilities after picking flowers grown from the blood of gods and is cast down from the halls of the gods for her offense. Stranded on an island and forbidden to leave, a cast of characters from Greek mythology enter her story.

Magnus Chase and the Ship of the Dead is a thrilling and funny fiction novel by Rick Riordan. This book is about a guy named Magnus Chase.  He and his friends travel across the nine worlds in search of a way for them to defeat Loki and return him to his chains and delay Ragnarok at the same time. I love the way the author makes the most serious moments really funny and exciting. The sarcasm in this book is so funny and original, I couldn’t stop laughing!

Run, don’t walk, to pick up a copy of Adam Gidwitz’s unbelievably great book, The Inquisitor’s Tale! A blend of medieval history, myth, commentary, fantasy, comedy, and drama (and probably a bunch of other genres too), The Inquisitor’s Tale, or The Three Magical Children and Their Holy Dog, is so different from most books in the library.

Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor is a funny and absorbing fantasy fiction by Rick Riordan. This book is about Magnus Chase who entered the world of Norse Gods. He is given the task of retrieving Thor’s hammer from the king of earth giants. He and his friend’s scheme and travel to every length, even if it means that they have to let out the God’s oldest prisoner. Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer is a humorous and adventurous fantasy novel by Rick Riordan. This book is about a homeless 16-year-old boy named Magnus Chase. He travels the nine worlds as an einherjar. He and his friends find a way to keep the Norse God’s enemy tied up on a magical island. I love the way Rick Riordan humorizes even the most tragic events. I recommend this book to anyone wanting something good to read or anyone wanting a good laugh.
