The Bean Trees is a novel written by Barbara Kingsolver about a young woman, Taylor Greer, who leaves her hometown of Pittman, Kentucky and sets off on a journey of personal growth in search of a better life. The story follows Taylor as she strikes out alone and takes charge of her life, meeting various people who influence her growth and transformation, including a orphaned Cherokee infant, Turtle, whom she takes under her wing.

Firekeeper’s Daughter is a teen fiction book that follows Daunis and her connection to her community and the mysterious drug problem happening. Daunis experiences many life changing events in close succession all while navigating being an investigator into the drug problem and while trying to protect her community. I personally really enjoyed this book and the story it told.

Intricate and intriguing, E. Lockhart’s “We Were Liars” provides both a captivating mystery and a bittersweet portrayal of young love. The Sinclairs are  an extremely wealthy family that spends each summer on their private island, Beechwood. The readers are introduced to their charmed yet secretive lives through Cadence Sinclair, a teenager who suffers from amnesia and chronic migraines after a tragic accident that occurred on Beechwood when she was fifteen.

Return to Beechwood with E. Lockhart’s “Family of Liars”, a prequel set in the 1980s to the modern “We Were Liars”. Focusing this time on Cadence’s aunt Carrie as a teenager, the book follows her during her seventeenth summer.

Fudge-a-Mania is a fictional novel written by Judy Blume. Peter Hatcher,

who is a fifth grader in New York and he takes a vacation to Maine. He has to

share a vacation house with his enemy, Sheila Tubman. Peter has to come to

terms with this, and his teen age while growing up when dealing with Sheila, and

his younger annoying brother, Fudge. He tries to make this situation better with

his friends, but it turns into problems. Things get better between them, and they

The protagonist is a 12-year-old named Willow Chance. She is highly gifted and

fascinated with medicine, plants, and the number 7. After a teacher accuses her of cheating

on a test she scored perfectly on, she starts meeting the school counselor, Dell Duke, who is

inspired by her intelligence. While meeting with Duke, she also meets two Vietnamese

siblings, Mai and Quang-ha Nyugen, whom she befriends and even learns Vietnamese for.

Willow also befriends the taxi driver she calls to bring her from school to Dell’s office, Jairo

Credence is an exceptionally written romance

mystery novel written by Penelope Douglas. It

takes us through the life of a young girl

whose parents mysteriously died and so she is

sent to live in the mountains with her step

uncle whom she has never met before. Overall

the storyline of the book is interesting due

to all the different perspectives outlined in

the book. I would not suggest this book for

young readers as it contains several mature

themes. I also feel as if the ending of the

Wish is a fictional novel written by Barbara O’Connor. This book is about a

girl making the same wish every day since fourth grade. Even though it looks like

situations will not allow her to fulfill her wish, she finds a way. However, she may

realize that she never needed this. The main characters are Charlie Reese,

Wishbone, and Howard. She really wishes for a real family. However, her new family

The Last Thing He Told Me was a fantastic read. The book was a mystery-thriller

that kept me engaged throughout the whole book. Hannah’s husband

mysteriously disappears after trouble with work. This sets Hannah and her

step-daughter Bailey on a mission to find answers. The story emphasizes the

importance of family and what one is willing to do to protect those they love. With

many twists and turns this will keep readers engaged and wanting more. I would
