Splinters of Scarlet is a loving and action-filled fictional novel by Emily Bain Murphy. This book is about an orphaned girl named Marit who can sew with magic. Eve, Marit’s friend, gets adopted by her idol, Helene Vestergaard. Marit befriends Liljan and her brother Jacob. Marit finds out that Philip Vestergaard is killing people for their magical blood and making the jewels instead of mining for them.

The Polar Express is a wonderful Christmas movie for children. It is about finding Christmas spirit. The main characters are taken on a magical train to the North Pole where they are put up against difficult challenges on the way to get there. When they finally make it to the North Pole they are able to discover real Christmas spirit within themselves and the ones around them. I think that this movie is great for young children around Christmas time, or even as a Christmas Eve family movie.

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo is the second book in the Shadow and Bone trilogy, set in the Grishaverse.  Following the actions of the Darkling, Mal and Alina are fleeing Ravka in hopes of starting a new life away from their past.  But as we know, the past haunts you.  This book introduces new wonderful characters into this series and Grishaverse as a whole, but unfortunately some characters do still bring bad vibes into the book.  As expecte

Cemetery Boys is an amazing novel that follows the story of Yadriel, a Latinx, gay, and transgender teenager, as he becomes determined to prove himself as a real brujo to his traditional family. But doing so, he accidentally summons a spirit who just so happens to be the resident “bad boy” at his school and follows Yadriel around. By helping the ghost of his schoolmate, Julian, this would be the perfect opportunity for Yadriel to prove he deserves being a Brujo in his community.

Rule of Wolves is the sequel to King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo.  The book follows Nina’s journey in Fjerdaalone while Zoya and Nikolai face the growing troubles of war in Ravka.  The book explores the countries of the Grishaverse in a deeper sense and you gain a deeper understanding of the world.  With the multiple points of view the timeline doesn’t always completely line up but it's done purposely to leave the reader with only the information

The Night Circus tells the story about the magical circus that travels around the world. It has no schedule or warning, it simply appears, stays for a while and performs shows, and then up and leaves. One of the main focuses of the story however, is between two magicians in the circus, Marco and Celia. It is sort of like a Romeo and Juliet situation, their parents hated each other and they were forced to be enemies in the circus, until they fall in love.

Ashes of Gold by J. Elle is teen fiction but heavily focused on fantasy with ties to our world.  The book is a continuation of Rue’s journey to reclaim Ghizon from the Chancellor and give it back to the Ghizoni people.  Not only does Rue struggle in the fight against the Chancellor, she also struggles to connect with her people and herself. I love the compelling plot and the character growth in this book.
