The main character Temperance takes on the job of a lamplighter, lighting the way in the fog, after her father dies to honor his memory. She financially supports her sisters and mother and takes on the burden of work herself. As she works as a lamplighter, mysterious things start to happen when the fog rolls in. She gets suspicious of her dad's warning to stay away from a certain person.

The Cruel Prince is a mysterious tale, overflowing with darkness and ambiguity. Jude Duarte, a human girl raised as a child of Faerie, has one goal. Serve as a knight under the king’s rule. However, the road that leads to loyalty to the king involves more obstacles than Jude bargained for. Although I had a hard time relating to Jude, she was very exciting to read about. This book genuinely made my jaw drop. Every plot twist led to a final chapter with such an unexpected ending.
