This book took me a total of 2 days to complete. I was delightfully surprised when I learned that this was the first published book of Madeline Miller, as I’ve read some of her other astonishing and addicting works. This story revolves around the famous Greek hero Achilles and his companion he held for most of his life- Patroclus. Rather than retelling the classic and widespread stories of Achilles’s heel, Miller took an alternative approach to the myths and lifted from the dusty covers the factor of love and friendship, in addition to the hardships and glory the hero faces.

The Giver is a thriller dystopian society novel. While reading this book you never know what to expect and it keeps you thinking on every page that you turn. One reason that I really enjoyed this book was because of the overall concept. It takes you into a whole new world that you would never expect and it shows you new realities that can help broaden your imagination.

The Aquanaut by Dan Santat was a moving, fun graphic novel about marine life and the meaning of family. You meet Sophia, the daughter of Michel who dies in the sinking of vessel that he and his brother were using to research the sea. During this sinking, Paul ends ups surviving and is left to take care of Sophia. Paul is quite busy with his work, leaving Sophia alone a lot. One day an old diving suit appears out of the water. What the people don’t know is that it’s operated by marine animals.

Rating: 3

My rating for this book is a 3 because the book felt not put together and just not right. The genre seems a bit off and mixes horror and fantasy. In my opinion, this is not a very good combination.

Summary:

This is about two boys who grow up together like brothers. The story talks about how the gods of the myriads caused a lot of damage to human society and killed thousands. These two boys then have to go through many challenges throughout the book.
