Following four siblings who have been told the exact day they will die, and how that shapes the outcomes of their lives, The Immortalists is a truly incredible book. Benjamin seamlessly takes you from the life of a troubled young man suffering through the AIDS crisis to his wild and free sister who dreams of becoming a magician. Their older brother feels responsibility for the family, and the oldest sister watches from her solitude as everything falls apart.
The Scorch Trials, the second book in the Maze Runner series, is about Thomas and the other Gladers trying to survive the second trial the people from WICKED set up. They have to face difficulties like sandstorms, starvation, and worst of all the crazy cranks. If the Gladers don’t make it to the end of the mountain in two weeks, they won’t get the cure they need.
I think this book is completely a classic and pretty well-known. It was funny to read the book and realize small misconceptions like how the creator of the monster was actually named Frankenstein. The story follows a Man named Victor Frankenstein as he delves into an experiment to create life, and once he does the monster follows him trying to win his love and attention, but Victor responds in fear and hatred. This causes the monster to follow Victor and torment his life. I really enjoyed this book.
I loved The Great Gatsby a lot. I loved the way F. Scott Fitzgerald described the scenery, and the detail to the color also added another layer of symbolism. The story was very interesting, it followed a rich man named Gatsby as he tries to woo his love, Daisy, away from her husband during the 1920s. Daisy’s cousin is the narrator who watches from afar. This book is honestly a classic and I think I enjoyed the writing style more than the actual book.
Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Prince continues the story of Tessa Gray, Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs, as they search for the Magister. After the events of clockwork angel, the London Institute is under scrutiny from the Clave, and Charlotte Branwell must prove that she is a fit leader. Meanwhile, Tessa continues to unravel the truth about her origins while she becomes entangled in a complicated love triangle with Will and Jem.
I originally read this book having no background about it. I only learned about the reason for the narrator's emotionless monologue or his epiphany near the end of the book after I had finished reading it. Because of this I don't feel right deducting stars due to my own confusion about the purpose of the book. The Stranger follows a man named Meursault. I can't give much without spoiling the book, but it delves into his psyche after events in his life, some traumatic, some loving.
Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Angel is the first book in the Infernal Devices trilogy, which is a prequel series to The Mortal Instruments. This book is set in Victorian London, and the story follows Tessa Gray, a sixteen-year-old girl who arrives from New York to find her lost brother, Nathaniel. Upon arrival, she is kidnapped by the Dark Sisters, who reveal that Tessa has the ability to shapeshift into other people, something she was unaware of.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Reading it I had completely no problems or concerns. I rarely give books 5 stars but The Picture of Dorian Grey was a masterpiece. The book delves into the story of a beautiful man named Dorian Grey as he grapples with his appearance, realizing how beautiful he is and his fear of getting older and losing his beauty. He curses his portrait, stating how he'll get older while the portrait stay young forever.
The Giver by Lois Lowry is about a society with citizens who have no memories of its past. The main character, Jonas, is chosen to be the receiver of memory, which means he receives the memories that none of the other characters receive. The more memories he receives, the more he realizes how messed up his community is.
