chosen to compete in the Selection. In a world with a messed up caste system/social system,

the Selection is a chance of a lifetime and gives girls a chance to escape the life they were

given. America Singer doesn’t like the thought of competing for the crown though. When

America is forced to compete for the sake of her family, now living in the castle, she finds out

Jude and Taryn now attend school among the higher ranked fae, including Prince Cardan

Greenbriar, the cruel prince of Elfhame (get it?). He and his friends, Nicasia, Valerian, and

Locke, do whatever they can to make Jude and Taryn miserable for their human heritage. The

Crush is about a boy named Jorge Ruiz who has middle school life under control. At

least until he runs into a possible crush on a theatre girl, Jazmine. He has to figure out a way to

ask her to the athletics ball without everyone noticing since Jorge hates gossip. I really enjoyed

this book because it was funny and exciting. My favorite part is when Jorge helps the drama

club move boxes and they get pizza. I would recommend this book to 5th, 6th, or 7th graders.

Love & Olives follows main character Olive, who goes by Liv. Liv’s dad left

her and her mom when she was little, leaving them with next to nothing.

Now, it’s the summer before her last year of highschool, and suddenly her

dad wants to reconnect with her. But Liv is a different person than she used

to be. She never mentions her dad, and tries her best not to think of him.

Now Liv is taking a trip to Greece to see him. But even in beautiful Santorini,

This book is truly amazing. The Sun Is Also a Star is written from two

different perspectives; Natasha and Daniel. Natasha is less of a dreamer,

more of a realistic thinker. She’s just trying to keep her family from being

suddenly deported to Jamaica. Daniel, on the other hand, is a poet of all

that’s good in life. He’s been trying to live up to his parents expectations his

whole life.
